WALKER, Robert W.
of Vicksburg, Michigan Died peacefully at home on September 18, 2012. Robert was born in Chicago, IL in 1931 to Dorothy Sherman and Chester Walker. His parents were divorced three years later and he was sent to live with Mabel Walker and Jake Shaffner in Iowa who loved him and raised him as their own. The family moved to Battle Creek in 1942 to work for the war effort. Bob went to work for Post Cereal at the age of 18. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted in the Army. He served on the line in the Korean War. After the war, he returned to Post Cereal where his job was waiting. He continued working at Post for 40 years as a dedicated employee. In 1955, he married Betty Martens and was a loyal husband for 57 years. Together they raised three children; Larry Laura Walker, David Sally Walker and Lisa Randy Dailey. He was a proud father and grandfather. They have five grandchildren, Jennifer Terry Hodges, Justin Erin Walker, Nicole Ruben Martinez, Allison Walker, David M. Walker and a step-grandchild Jeremiah Eckert; and three great grandchildren, Ruben, Mya and Kenadie Martinez. Bob enjoyed mowing his lawn, riding his bicycle, refinishing furniture, country music and traveling around the country with his wife. He is also survived by one sister Dolores Otto Hrozny of Bella Vista, Arkansas and special niece Colette Harmon of Dallas, TX and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a great granddaughter Marissa Hodges and his parents, step-parents and several special cousins in Iowa. A graveside service will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 10:00am. For those wishing to attend should arrive at the cortege area between 9:50 - 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Hospice Care of SW Michigan, Parkinson's Foundation of Michigan or to Lewy Body Dementia Association.
