STALEY, Robert J.
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Died November 24, 2013 at age 86. Robert was born June 15, 1927 in Flint, MI to the late Victor and Frances Faferko Staley. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Anderson on November 18, 1949. Dorothy preceded him in death in December of 2010. Bob Served with the U.S. Army in France and Germany at the end of WWII. He then returned to his hometown of Montrose where he owned and operated "Bob's Barbershop" for 44 years. True to the image of a barbershop as a hub of community life, he was active in several key civic groups such as Montrose Chamber of Commerce, Montrose United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #367, Cub scouts Pinewood Derby, and organized the first rocket club in Montrose with his son Bim. After retiring, Bob and his wife Dorothy moved to the Kalamazoo area where they volunteered for Meals on Wheels. They also found great pleasure in their grandsons' school events. In his later years, Bob thoroughly enjoyed working in his woodshop sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. Bob's friendly nature and generous spirit will be greatly missed by all. Robert is survived by his daughter, Penny Tom Olvitt Staley; grandchildren, Daniel Natalee Olvitt, Kurt Olvitt, Tanner Olvitt, Cory Staley; and daughter-in-law, Loraine Staley. He was also preceded in death by a son, Bim Robert Staley; and brother, Victor Staley. Cremation has taken place. Memorial and burial will be held June, 2014 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
