SCHIPPERS, Robert J. "Bob"
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Went to be with his Lord on December 30, 2008 at Borgess Hopsital. He was born December 15, 1924 in Kalamazoo, to the late James and Fannie Yzenbaard Schippers. Bob was united in marriage on August 20, 1948 to the former Angie Kuivenhoven, who survives. Bob served in the Army Air Force from July of 1943 until honorably discharged in October of 1945. During his tour, he flew 30 missions as a nose-gunner on a B17, out of England over Germany. He was a longtime member of Heritage Christian Reformed Church in Kalamazoo. He was employed with Western Michigan University, as carpenter maintenance until he retired 1990. He was known to be very sharp and witty and was quick to tease. He was a very active man and among his many interests were, doing crosswords, listening to classical music, cribbage, golfing and bowling. He was deeply involved in woodworking and carving, both of which he excelled in. He and Angie also enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years. Also surviving Bob are his children, Barb Bob DeBoer of Lake City, MI, Tom Sue Schippers of Houston, TX, Ed Schippers of Kalamazoo and Don Kathy Schippers of Houston; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Nelson Helen Schippers; sisters, Ruth Max Haase and Shirley Bob McCarty; brothers-in-law, Jake Rosemary Kuivenhoven, Neil Dolores Kuivenhoven, Pete Dorothy Kuivenhoven and; sister-in-law, Connie Glen Phillips; many nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death were, brothers, Adrian and James Schippers and; sister, Louise Schippers. A visitation will take place on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8:00PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00AM from the Heritage Christian Reformed Church, 2857 S. 11th St. Interment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Park Village Pines Assisted Living or Heritage Christian Reformed Church. Condolences may be left and viewed at www.langelands.com . 343-1508
