PARKER, Robert G.
Kalamazoo Robert "Bob" Parker, age 93, passed away Saturday morning, February 22, 2014. Bob was born in Kalamazoo on July 11, 1920; the son of George W. and Maude Bergeon Parker. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and Northwestern University. Bob loved flying and earned his private pilots' license before enlisting in the Navy Air Force in July, 1942 where he served as a pilot 3 1/2 years. In 1946 he separated from the Navy, returned to Northwestern and graduated that year. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Jane Roosevelt in September, 2002. Bob was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Rachel Parker, daughter of Barry and Dolores Parker as well as his sister, Bernice Rowen on November 11, 2008. Bob is survived by three sons: Barry and Dolores Parker of Kalamazoo, Steve and Karen Parker of Rochester Hills, MI. and Bill and Linda Parker of Flower Mound, TX; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Bob worked as an account manager at an advertising agency for nine years before joining Howard Printing Co. He worked there for over 14 years and became part owner and President. He later became associated with Barnes Printing Co. where he worked until retiring in 1985. Over the years Bob served as President of the Kalamazoo Downtown Lions Club, Co-Chairman of SCORE, and held offices at Michigan Advertising Round Table, Kalamazoo Sales Executives Club, and the Civitan Club. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for family and friends of Bob will be held 11:00 Friday morning, February 28, 2014 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Private inurnment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make lasting gifts in Bob's memory are asked to contribute to Kalamazoo Downtown Lions Club or Kalamazoo Humane Society.
