NICOL, Robert V.
Of Portage, Michigan Bob passed away Tuesday morning, February 9, 2010 at his home. He was born April 27, 1925 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Arnold and Mable Unrath Nicol. Bob was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. On May 28, 1948, he was united in marriage to Betty DeVries. Bob was employed by The Upjohn Co. for 37 years until his retirement. He was an active member of Trinity Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon, and elder, a Sunday school teacher, and in the choir. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Betty Nicol; two children, Robert Sue Nicol of Kalamazoo and Leigh Nicol of Portage; grandson, Rob Nicol; great-grandson, Owen Nicol; sister, Beatrice Marvin Slager of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Bob will be at 11:00 AM on Friday at Trinity Reformed Church, 326 W. Cork Street, with Rev. Jacques Nel officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 PM on Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
