Nichols, Robert J.
of Battle Creek Passed away May 13, 2011 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice. He was born April 16, 1927 in Kalamazoo to the late James and Wilma Sherman Nichols. Robert was united in marriage to Carol Johnson on May 21, 1971 for nearly 40 loving years. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, from March of 1945 until honorably discharged in April of 1946. Bob graduated from Western Michigan University?s Printing Management School. He was employed as a journeyman printer for 50 years. Bob lived life to the fullest , as expressed by the way he loved to entertain others. He enjoyed collecting hats which he also used when he entertained. After moving to Battle Creek, he participated with the Valentine Singers and Burnham Brook Choir. He won ?Music Volunteer of the Year 2005? at Burnham Brook. Surviving Bob are his wife, Carol Nichols; children, Kristine Vince Desmond of Grand Rapids and Jon Nichols of Costa Mesa, CA; step-children, Heidi Dan Reschner of Athens, MI and Hayden Yuy Roe of MN; 3 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ann Hopkins and Barbara Harold Meinart; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will greet friends on Tuesday from 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 East Maple St., where a funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11:30. Burial will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice. Please see
