LUCKEY, Robert J. "Bud"
Of Portage
Died June 10, 2010 at Bronson Hospital. Bud was born May 25, 1921 in Sioux City, IA, a son of Robert J. and Jennie Stone Luckey. He was a member of the 823rd Tank Destroyer Battalion in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was injured and awarded the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged and in 1944, moved to the Kalamazoo/Portage area. Bud was a member of the Duane E. Dewey AMVETS Post #1988 in Baldwin, MI and a life member of the V.F.W. He also enjoyed singing Karaoke and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle until he was 85 years old. Bud was preceded in death by his wife Amelia in 2001 and by a sister Lorraine Smith. Surviving are 2 daughters Barbara Ray Shearer of Portage, Mary Mike Korteway of Scotts and 1 son, Robert Luckey, Jr. of Irons, MI; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday June 15th at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Ave. with Fr. Chris Ankley, Celebrant.
