HOWES, Robert M. ?Bob?
Of Galesburg Passed away Friday morning, October 12, 2007. Bob was born August 7, 1935 in Battle Creek the son of Samuel and Alice Randall Howes and had been a resident in Galesburg since 1966. Bob graduated from Western Michigan University in1961 and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy as a pilot in the Pacific. He owned and operated the family business, Howes Diamond Tool Company for many years; and for the past 12 years was the Facilities Manager of his son Rob?s business, Cutters Tool & Grinding, Inc. Bob was a member of the Galesburg United Methodist Church since 1976 where he was involved with the ?United Methodist Men?; the Wednesday Morning Men?s Breakfast Group; and served as an usher. He was a former member of the Galesburg Lions Club; enjoyed his Canadian fishing trips; and working in his yard. On May 4, 1963, Bob was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Barbara Auch, who survives. Also surviving are 2 children, Julie L. Howes of Galesburg, Robert J. Howes of Battle Creek 2 grandchildren, Tara and Stephanie Howes of Battle Creek; a sister, Mary Michael Gratz of Elkhart, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Sam; and a sister, Melinda. A service to celebrate Bob?s life will be held 11:00 o?clock Monday at the Galesburg United Methodist Church, 111 W. Battle Creek St. with Rev. Mona Joslyn officiating. Friends may meet the family Sunday from 4-7pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek St. Private family interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be directed to the Galesburg United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
