Robert S. Harpster

HARPSTER, Robert S.
of Portage, Michigan Bob passed away Wednesday morning, August 8, 2012 at Tendercare of Kalamazoo. He was born September 24, 1924 in Battle Creek, the son of Charles and Catherine Westerman Harpster. Bob was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard serving during World War II. In 1980, he retired as General Manager of the Graphic Arts Department for International Paper Co., where he was employed for 35 years. He was a life member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #50. Bob enjoyed being outdoors and working on his lawn and in his flower garden. On June 18, 1985, he was united in marriage to the former, Cecile Hart Dawes, who survives. Also surviving are his son, Robert II Pam Harpster of South Lyons; two grandchildren, Travis and Toby Harpster; four step-children and their spouses; and 8 step-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Jody Everts; brother, Charles Harpster; and sister, Frances Secor. Honoring Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or services. Private inurnment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer's Association.
