Charkowski, Robert Frank
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the age of 87. He was born in Kalamazoo on September 12, 1925, the son of the late Frank and Helen Summerfield Charkowski. He graduated from St. Augustine High School. Robert owned and operated the Gobles Tavern from 1957-1964 and retired from the United States Postal Service 1982 after over 30 years of service. He belonged to numerous Moose Lodges and enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was married to Beatrice Themins Charkowski; she preceded him in death. He later married Alma Irish Charkowski; she preceded him in death. Robert and Alma enjoyed spending time in Clearwater, Florida for over 20 years. He is survived by five children, David Charkowski of Tucson, AZ, Karen Charkowski of Kalamazoo, Diane Michael Fichtner Krueger of Kalamazoo, Paul Mary Charkowski of Tucson, AZ and Kevin Marcia Charkowski of Mattawan; two step-children, Linda Scott Linn of Kodak, TN and Rebecca Lawson of Haslett, MI; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters, Frances Charkowski, Elizabeth Sliss and Arlene Yowler. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., where the funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013. Mark Bonham will officiate. Private interment will be in Battle Creek Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
