Robert “Bob” Diemer, age 79 of Kalamazoo, passed away at home with his loving wife and stepchildren at his side, to be with his Lord and Savior on November 27, 2023. He was born on August 8, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of William and Myrtle (Neitzel) Diemer. Bob was a graduate of Mattawan High School and Western Michigan University in 1966, receiving his accounting degree. He went on to receive his master’s degree in taxation from Oakland University. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968 and was stationed in Oakland, California, working in finance. Bob obtained his CPA accreditation and moved to Coldwater, Michigan, where he was a tax manager in an accounting firm. He married the love of his life, Margaret “Margo”, in Coldwater, Michigan, on April 15, 1984. He opened his own accounting practice in Portage, Michigan and became a certified financial planner in 1984. He continued practicing until his recent illness. Bob was president and founder of the Portage AM Rotary Club in Portage and was an eight-time Paul Harris Fellow through Rotary International. Bob was a member of the Elks (45 years), American Legion, and Moose Service Clubs. His hobbies included a master and advanced rain garden gardener. Bob enjoyed golfing and won the Cattail Classic and was a 2-time champion at Moors Golf Club. He enjoyed hot rod/classic cars, stamp and coin collecting, and mechanical bank collecting. Margo and Bob enjoyed taking cruises and traveling and had been to all the national parks. Bob had been a representative on the Friendship Village Board of Directors. His brother remembers peeling potatoes together at their parent’s restaurant in Oshtemo Township and farming grapes and asparagus on the family farm.  

His family includes his wife Margo Diemer; his children: Christopher (Angela) Diemer of Sarasota, FL, and Michael (Karly) Diemer of Rockford; his grandchildren: Ethan, Jake, Megan, and James; his step-children: Laura Perry (Ludek Grec) of Perth, Australia, Bridget Perry of Chicago, Roy Perry (Liane Proulx) of Alban, Ontario, Andrea Perry (Fernando Abudeye) of Ypsilanti; his step-grandchildren: Tamara, Klara, Luca, and Quinn; and his brother, William R. (Mary) Diemer.

A private burial will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery and a private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Friendship Village Kalamazoo (memo: Health Center Capital Fund) or donations of your choice.
