Kalamazoo Passed away Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the Borgess Nursing Home after a year long battle to recover from two major surgeries, including a brain tumor. Bob was born March 10, 1931 in Kalamazoo, son of the late Walter and Ruth Ames Benthin. Bob was united in marriage to Esther Kiel in Kalamazoo, August 29, 1952. He is survived by his wife of 55 years as well as his three sons, Richard Marcia Benthin of Kalamazoo, Keith Cindy Benthin of Hudsonville, MI., Brian Sharon Benthin of Mattawan; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandson and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Madelyn Benthin. A staunch family man, he especially enjoyed family vacations, Sunday afternoon drives, camping and the Kalamazoo Symphony concerts ?Pines of Rome? being his favorite. Bob was an active member of the Greenwood Reformed Church for many years serving in a variety of capacities including Deacon and Elder. He also hand made banners for the church. For his working life, Bob started working at Mulder?s Moving & Storage in 1950 at the age of eighteen. He and his wife purchased the business in 1976 where his employees included his three sons. Robert also served on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Mover?s Association. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 12th from 6 ? 8:00 PM and Thursday the 13th from 2 ? 4 and 6 ? 8:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo. Funeral services will be held Friday the 14th, 11:00 o?clock at the Greenwood Reformed Church, 1815 Winton Ave., Kalamazoo. Rev. Jon Loper will officiate the services. Interment will immediately follow at Riverside Cemetery, Kalamazoo.
