Robert Tenbrook Banfield, age 85, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015 at his home. He was born on March 15, 1930 in Glen Ridge, NJ. Robert served in the US Navy as a young man, enjoyed boating and sailing and was an avid jogger. In 1968, Robert founded FEMA Corporation in southern California, moved it to Portage in the early 1970s and served as its president for many years until retiring. On July 7, 1962, Robert married the former Nancy J. Roose, who preceded him in death on December 17, 2005. Surviving are three sons, Greg (Sally) Banfied of Mattawan, Bradley Banfield of Kalamazoo and Scott Banfield of Angola, IN. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 7th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Graveside services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 8th in West Oshtemo Cemetery.
