Kalamazoo, Michigan Robert C. Anderson, born July 15, 1924, in Monmouth, Illinois to Frank A. and Meta Serfling Anderson passed away on February 4, 2009 at Rose Arbor Hospice. He was a Veteran of WW II and served in the Army Signal Corp. under Eisenhower's Command in Germany. He graduated from Monmouth College and earned a Masters degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana. He married Amy Trotter in Coal City, Illinois in August, 1948. He was employed in research at The Upjohn Company for 34 1/2 years. He is survived by his wife and three children. David F. Cori Terry Anderson of Kalamazoo, MI, Dale R. Anderson of Dowling, MI and Nancy William Greenlees of Odessa, FL. Granddaughters are Inesa Figueroa, Meta Loren Harrington, Erika Jon Crail, Teresa Greenlees, Miriam Greenlees and Ayla Terry-Mitchell. Great Grandchildren are Elizabeth and David Harrington. Grandsons are Luke Lacey Foster and Dan Foster. Great Grandchildren are Laela and Lincoln Foster. He enjoyed activities of the National and local Sierra Club, canoeing with the Kalamazoo Downstreamers, doing volunteer work on trails at the Kalamazoo Nature Center and taking bird watching hikes with the Kalamazoo Audubon Club. He delighted in family camping trips, canoe trips, hiking and backpacking in the mountains and gardening. Rob enjoyed Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra Concerts and attending Folk Music Festivals in the U.S. and Canada. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, a 60 Year Member of the American Chemical Society, a Lifetime member of Veterans For Peace. He was active in the Valley Alliance and the Kalamazoo Area Coalition for Peace and Justice. Rob was a faithful participant at the Federal Building during the weekly vigils for Peace along with other members of Kalamazoo Non-violent Opponents of War. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. He is survived by a brother, Larry Anderson of Gladstone, IL and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 Saturday, February 21, at the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, 321 W. South St. with Rev. Wayne Conner officiating. Private interment will be in the church columbarium. Rob's family is grateful to all the Staff at Rose Arbor for their loving concern and care for him.
