Portage, MI Passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at his home. Pete was born April 14, 1934 in Beckley, WV, one of eleven children born to William and Annie Perkins Ailstock. He served his country in the United States Air Force and worked for General Motors, Comstock Plant, as a tool and die maker. While at Fisher Body, he served as the President of Local 488 and as the Financial Secretary, for a total of 30 years of service. Pete was a generous and gracious man who loved friends and family. He loved to laugh, tell stories and enjoyed evening activities with friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Pete leaves behind his Life Partner and Soul Mate, Teresa Ranney of Portage; his children, Robert E., Jr. Lisa Ailstock of Kalamazoo, William M. Gennifer Ailstock of Portland, OR and Sara Joanna Ailstock of Greenbay, WI; 9 grandchildren; two sisters, Joanne Kanipe and Alberta Kincaid; several nieces and nephews, including Ben Lily Kanipe. In keeping with Pete's social nature, a gathering of his friends and foes will be held on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. During this time, friends are encouraged to come and share their memories of Pete with the family and the other guests. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to remember memorials to the St. Jude Hospital and the Borgess VNA Hospice of Kalamazoo.
