WIESSNER, Richard J.
Of Portage, Michigan Passed away Monday morning, June 23, 2008. Richard was born May 18, 1927 in Kalamazoo the son of Charles and Katherine Boerman Wiessner. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Prior to his retirement he was employed as an auditor with the Michigan Treasury Department for over 34 years. Richard was a member of the First Reformed Church of Kalamazoo and enjoyed playing golf and traveling. On June 2, 1951 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Lona Harp who preceded him in death in 2004. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Wiessner; and a brother, Harold Wiessner. Surviving are a son and daughter, Rev. Dr. Charles Colleen Wiessner of Raleigh, NC, Katherine Roger Sonneveldt of Grand Haven, MI; 4 grandsons, Nathaniel and Benjamin Wiessner, Sean and Michael Sonneveldt; a sister, Joan Joseph Shane; a special niece, Janet Wiessner; and several other nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at the South Portage Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street with Pastor Mark Walvoord officiating. Friends may meet the family Wednesday from 3-6pm at the Westside Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the Bible Fund of the First Reformed Church of Cary, NC or the Reformed Church World Service Hunger Fund.
