VYKYDAL, Richard. W. "Dick"
of Portage Died on May 10, 2011. Dick was born on March 16, 1926 to John and Frances Copek Vykydal in Detroit, MI. He was a graduate of Cooley High School in Detroit and the University of Cornell in Ithica, New York. Dick was a U.S. Army veteran who served at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. during World War II, until he was honorably discharged in 1946 . He was married to Marilyn Brown on September 10, 1955 in Detroit. Dick was employed by General Motors for 37 years. He was the Plant Personnel Director of the Three Rivers/Constantine plants until his retirement in 1985. Dick served on many board of directors including the Suburban Employers Association, Novi Public Library, St. Joseph County Department of Social Services and Planning Commission, Southwestern Michigan Boy Scouts of America, and Northville Our Lady of Victory Church Financial and Church Council. He was also a very active member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish. His surviving family includes his beloved wife of 56 years, Marilyn; his son Richard B. Marianne Vykydal of Onsted, MI; his daughter Lisa M. Eric Conrad of Canton, MI; five grandchildren, Zachary, Lindsay and Phillip, Rebecca and Danielle; two brothers-in-law Russell Brown and Don Alber; and sister-in-law Mary Ann Vykydal; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father John; mother Frances; brother, John Jr.; and sister, Sally. The family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Thursday, May 12th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Following a 1 hour viewing from 10-11:00am on Friday, May 13th, funeral services will be held at 11:00 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1150 W. Centre Ave., Portage by Fr. Chris Ankley. A private interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church or to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. Please see
