Valley, Richard Butler Of Portage Passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 at Bronson Hospital. Age 85 years. Richard was born in Akron, OH on January 26, 1927, the son of the late Earl and Hazel Whitmarsh Valley. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and later received his PhD. from the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, Wisconsin. He was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Portage. He was a member of T.A.P.P.I. Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry and P.I.M.A. Paper Industry Management Association. Richard enjoyed traveling and going on road trips, once following the Lewis and Clark Trail. He was married to Vivian Mellor Valley on December 19, 1950; she preceded him in death on November 18, 2002. Richard is survived by five children and their spouses, Richard Martin of Eugene, Or, Michael Mellor and Kate Valley of Kalamazoo, Karen Marshall Valley of Negaunee, MI, Geoffrey Clark and Janeth Valley of Centerville, OH and Aja Aislinn Melchior of Tacoma, WA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Martin Valley. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2012 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 929 E. Centre Ave. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 5:00 p.m. until time of memorial service. The Reverend Bonnie E. Edwards will officiate. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
