SWEENEY, Mr. Richard K.
Portage, Michigan Mr. Sweeney passed away Sunday February 15, 2009 at his residence. Richard was born March 17, 1925 in Plainwell, Michigan, son of Charles and Anna McSorley Sweeney. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Army. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the Eaton Corporation for 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed tinkering with anything electrical and could fix anything. He also was a ham and CB radio operator. He loved playing card games with his family and/or just spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn L. Sheppard Sweeney on May 14, 2007 whom he married on 12/27/57; a daughter, Patricia Tuttle on October 15, 1999; a brother; and 4 sisters. He is survived by 4 children, Susan Kerry Knight of Otsego, Nancy Harold Brown of Scotts, Christine Munn of Mattawan, and Sherrie David Maike of Fountain, CO; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Gladys Beldon of St. Petersburg, FL and Helen Hayes of Otsego; and several nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Friends may meet the family 6-8pm Friday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E.
