Kalamazoo, Michigan Died Wednesday morning April 7, 2010. Richard was born May 14, 1922 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Eugene and Helen Landes Shields. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Army. Richard had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with TransAmerica Pump Company for many years, before retiring. He was also a member of the American Legion. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister, Nancy. He was united in marriage to Norma J. McLarty who survives. Also surviving, 4 children, James Shields of Delton, David Cathy Shields and Nanette Scott Davis all of Kalamazoo, and Sara Steven Curl of Plainwell; a granddaughter, Lindsey Alex Shields of Richland; a great-grandchild, Charlotte Shields; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 1 o'clock Friday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the Kalamazoo Humane Society. www.langelands.com . 343-1508.
