Of Vicksburg MI Died February 5, 2009 in Centreville, MI. Richard was born January 13, 1949 in Elberta, MI, the son of Fay and Jeannette McConnell Sheldon and had lived in the Kalamazoo area for the past 53 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. While serving in the Army in Germany, he met his future wife Karen Jo Zieba to whom he was married on September 25, 1978. Richard was employed for several years as a mechanic at Krum-Hallam Chevrolet in Vicksburg. He enjoyed cars, fishing and bowling and could fix anything. Richard was preceded in death by his father Fay Sheldon. Surviving are his wife Karen Jo Sheldon of Vicksburg; a daughter Kelly Jean Sheldon and a son Anthony Gerald Sheldon, all of Joppa, AL; 2 grandchildren; his mother Jeanette Sheldon of Inverness, FL; 1 brother and 3 sisters, George Sheldon of Comstock, Vivian Danny Emmons of Scotts, Barbara Jurrick of Chattanooga, TN and Tina May of Palm Harbor, FL; several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2 pm Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Friends may meet the family beginning at 1 pm Monday at the funeral home. Private interment in South Portage Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Richard's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Karen Sheldon to help with expenses.
