Dick died Tuesday evening June 28, 2016 in Leesburg, Florida. Dick was born September 12, 1926 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Fred and Bessie (Olmstead) Sackett. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Army. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of his life before moving to Florida about ten years ago. Dick was employed with Peter Eckrich and Sons Company for 28 years, retiring in 1974. He then tried banking, becoming president of the Eckrich Credit Union. Retiring from that he moved into construction becoming a licensed contractor. He continued in construction well into his late 70's. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Dick is survived by 6 children, Ann Kob of Leesburg, FL, Jerry Sackett of Aransas Pass, TX, Dale Sackett of Kalamazoo, Helen Sackett of Paw Paw, Judy Sackett of Kalamazoo and Bruce Sackett of Paw Paw; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Committal services and military honors will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 12th at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Road, Augusta. We are asked to gather 15 min. prior in the cortege area. A memorial gathering/luncheon will follow from 11:30am-1:00 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo. He had a passion for helping the homeless. Memorials may be directed to Kalamazoo Dream Center; 1122 Portage St., Kalamazoo, 49001.
