PAINTON, Richard J.
Kalamazoo, Michigan Dick passed away peacefully Sunday evening, November 2, 2008 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born May 17, 1924 in Williamsport, PA, one of three children born to James and Katheryn VanBuskirk Painton. After receiving his B.S. in civil engineering from Bucknell University, Dick enlisted in the U.S.A.F. and served as a navigator on B-29 type aircraft. On October 4, 1947, Dick married Susan Wolfe, who preceded him in death on April 27, 2008. His four surviving children are Judy Painton of Eugene, Oregon; Linda Painton of Kalamazoo; Richard Jr. Barbara Painton of Hickory Corners and Barbara John Schurr of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren, Jasmine, Jonquil, Juniper, Willow, Kyle and Amy Toby Ferris; 3 great-grandchildren, Raylene, Annalore, Leila; and 2 brothers, Ray Irene Painton of Coco Beach, FL and James Mikki Painton of Pensacola, FL. In 1958, Dick and Susan moved to Kalamazoo where he was employed by The Upjohn Company until his retirement. His job with the international division took him to many places around the world. After his retirement, he was able to share some of his favorite places with his dear wife, Susie. Dick was an avid golfer and walker, and enthusiastic member of Borgess Fitness Center. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 2-5 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. Private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
