Richard J. Margelis

MARGELIS, Richard J. Kalamazoo, Ml Richard J. Margelis, born in Grand Rapids, Michigan February 28, 1949, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 31, 2010, in Kalamazoo, Ml. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and teacher. He was the son of Albert and Mary Kruskas Margelis. He married Susan Humphrey Margelis on August 18, 1972, who survives him. He is also survived by: two sons, Christopher Margelis of Chicago and Nicholas Junko Margelis of Japan; his brother, Michael Anita Margelis of Grand Rapids; his sister, Ellen Bob Hefferan Margelis of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. Rick was a respected chemistry instructor at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, where he taught for 36 years. He received his degrees in chemistry, a B.S. from Michigan State University in 1971 and an M.S. from the University of Michigan in1974. He was highly regarded as an instructor by his students. Rick was also an avid golfer who served as a KMGA board member for 10 years. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 5, from 4:00 to 7:00 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 7, at 1:00 pm in the auditorium of KVCC, 6767 West 0 Avenue, Kalamazoo, Ml 49003. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick's honor may be made to the KVCC Foundation in Memory of Richard Margelis at the above address for the college.
