Portage Went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Rich was born June 4, 1934 in Grand Rapids, the son of Francis and Geraldine L. Frisbie Hoorn and was a resident of the Portage area since 1941. He was employed by DeNooyer Chevrolet as a truck sales manager for a total of 36 years and was a member of the Portage First Reformed Church, where he served as an elder for many years. On November 12, 1954, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Kiel, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Vicki Kary Christiansen of Galesburg, Dawn Brad Klinkers of Portage, Kimberly Paul Havenaar of Kalamazoo and Dr. Steven Hoorn of West Hollywood, CA; 5 grandchildren, Josh Klinkers, Tyler Havenaar, Jacob Christiansen, Jared Havenaar and Benjamin Havenaar; brothers, Dennis Kathy Hoorn and Jay Cindy Hoorn all of Richland; sisters, Joanne Cattone of Berkley, MI and Cherie Terry Sehy of Delton; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine & Bill Cowles and Francis & Louise Hoorn. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 PM in the First Reformed Church of Portage, 7905 S. Westnedge Ave. with Rev. Clayton Smith, officiating. Interment will follow in the Portage Central Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel 411 E. Centre Ave. on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Reformed Church of Portage Memorial Fund, the West Michigan Cancer Center or Rose Arbor Hospice Facility.
