Kalamazoo, MI Died Monday evening January 30, 2012, at Rose Arbor Hospice surrounded by family. Richard was born September 1, 1944 in Oklahoma, a son of Philip and Edna McDonald Hodges. During the Vietnam War, he served with the U.S. Army. A lifelong Cornhuskers fan, he graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B.S., M.S., and PhD in accounting. He was employed by Western Michigan University for over 25 years as an associate professor of accounting, department chairman, and associate dean. Richard was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee, finance chairman, Sunday School teacher, and food pantry volunteer. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol Johnson Hodges, and 2 children, Janet Joshua Smith of Charlotte, NC and Mark Abigail Hodges of Oak Park, IL; 2 grandsons, Nicholas and Benjamin Smith; 2 brothers, Galin Cindy Hodges of O'Fallon, MO and Keith Chris Hodges of Colorado Springs, CO; and12 nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 10 o'clock Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park St. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Western Michigan University's Department of Accountancy - Beta Alpha Psi scholarship fund or the First United Methodist Church Adult Education Fund.
