Portage Passed away November 17, 2007 at his residence with his family by his side. Dick was born January 17, 1933 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Alvin and Sophia Sebert Gibson and was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 29 years at General Motors. Dick?s hobbies included boating, antiquing. He boarded horses for many years. Dick especially enjoyed restoring old sleighs and buggies. One of his sleigh restorations was used for several years for Santa Claus in the Kalamazoo Christmas Parade. He was also a charter member of the Kalamazoo/Portage Eagles Lodge and a member of the Portage Moose Lodge and the U.A.W. Local #488. On August 22, 1951, he was married to Mary Jane Boven who survives. Also surviving are 1 son and 2 daughters, Rick Gibson Shelly VanderMolen of West Olive, Linda Gibson of Shelbyville and Lisa Gary Storteboom of Kalamazoo; 6 grandchildren, Greg Gibson, Michelle Jason Thornburg, Jessica Jeffrey, Jennifer Jeffrey Rob VanSweden, Jacob Storteboom and Matthew Storteboom; 1 great-grandson Brandon Thornburg; a sister Virginia Hancock of Kalamazoo; several nieces and nephews and a special friends Bruce and Teddie Lee. Dick was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Alvin and Chandler Gibson. Services will be held at 1:00 o?clock Tuesday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. with Pat Weatherwax, Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice Chaplain officiating. Interment in South Portage Cemetery. Friends may meet the family on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Portage Chapel. Memorial contributions in Dick?s memory may be made to Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice or the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation. www.langelands.com
