Portage, MI Died Sunday morning June 1, 2008. Richard was born October 3, 1922 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of John and Wilma DeHoff Cox, Sr. During WWII, he served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Marines and the landing of Iwo Jima. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with Allied Paper for 44 years, retiring in 1984. He was also a member of the Portage Moose Lodge #88; V.F.W.; and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine C. Cox on October 10, 1998; and a brother, John Cox Jr. in 1991. He is survived by 2 sons, Mickey Cora Cox of Yuma, AZ and Larry Linda Cox of Detroit, MI; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Byron Toni Cox of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 o'clock Thursday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Private burial will take place in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Rose Arbor Hospice.
