Covey, Richard L.
of Kalamazoo Passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2008 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence of Kalamazoo. Richard was born April 7, 1927 in South Haven, Michigan the son of Cecil and Louise Schnell Covey. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1945 and then went on to graduate from Michigan State University in 1950. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He married Phyllis E. Green in 1949. They were married 52 years before she died in December, 2000. Richard was a banker in Kalamazoo for 20 years and then went on to start the Covey Real Estate business. He retired in 1979. He and Phyllis moved to northern Michigan on the Torch River and then moved down to Punta Gorda, Florida. They eventually moved back to Kalamazoo. Richard is survived by his children Mike Patty, Jeff Margie and Lynda Charlie Kettles Covey and his three grandchildren, Stacy Covey, Miranda Count and Adam Ace Covey. Also survived by his brother Jack Covey and his wife Evelyn; his sister Virginia Drobny, along with several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his dear friend Inez Bonnel. There will be no visitation or services. According to his wishes, Richard's cremated remains were buried alongside his wife Phyllis at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
