Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Dick passed away Friday evening, June 11, 2010 at Kairos Dwelling. He was born January 16, 1927 in Kalamazoo, the son of Clinton and Geneva Scott Smith. Dick was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He was employed by the United States Postal Service until his retirement. Preceding him in death were his wife, Irene Shedore Smith and his parents. Surviving are five children, Linda Triesenberg, Barbara Haan, Debra Smith, Betty Jo Rodney Brewer, and Carol Ann Thomas; sixteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Beverly Lockwood and Joyce Pearson. A special thanks to his granddaughter, Sarah Smith, for all the help and support she provided to Dick during this difficult time. Funeral services for Dick will be at 2:00 PM on Friday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Kairos Dwelling for the Terminally Ill.
