Kalamazoo On Sunday afternoon, March 22, 2009, at his home, Rev. John Mathew Wayman, surrounded by his family, went home with the Lord. "To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord" 2 Cor 5:8. The son of Sarah Wayman, John was born March 19, 1950, in Sayre, PA. John met the love of his life, Kathleen Smith at fourteen years old and they were united in marriage on June 26, 1971. John is remembered for his dedication to family, friends, and the congregation of Nazareth Assembly of God, where he served as Pastor for 29 years. In particular, he loved helping others in need. John also enjoyed many hobbies, including organizing YMCA events, refereeing sports events and independent entrepreneurship of housing and vehicles. He was best known for his outgoing, magnetic personality! John is survived by: his wife, Kathy; two daughters, Denise Wayman of Chicago and Veronica Troutner of Kalamazoo; a grandson, Liam Troutner; two brothers, Dan and Stephanie Chandler of Clarksville, Tennessee and Lavern "D.D." and Carol Chandler of Sayre, PA; two brothers-in-law, Ralph and Roseanne Smith of Erie, PA and Harry and Holly Smith of Waverly, NY.; and many nieces nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Funeral services will be held 1:00 Friday afternoon at Nazareth Assembly of God, 4039 Nazareth Rd., with John and Kathleen's spiritual leader, Rev. Harry Burnard, officiating. John will be buried in Tioga Point Cemetery in Athens, PA. John's family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Lifespan Home Hospice or Nazareth Assembly of God.
