FIKKERT, Rev. John N.
of Kalamazoo Went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 22, 2011. He was born January 23, 1925 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Berend and Jennie Huisman Fikkert. John was united in marriage to June Markus, on April 18, 1947 who preceded him in death in May of 2000. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. John started his ministry in 1956 in the Indian fields of New Mexico and went on to serve for many years and in many different communities spreading the Word of God. He retired in 1988 from the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. Surviving John are his children, Robert Glenda Fikkert of Sussix, WI, Steven Debra Fikkert of Lancaster, PA, James Starlyn Fikkert of Tulare, CA, and Mary Fred Vlietstra of Kalamazoo; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Deana Vander Molen and Patricia Lee Terpstra; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding John in death was a daughter-in-law, Diane Fikkert.. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 11:00 o'clock at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Rev. Dr. Harry G. Arnold and Rev. Tim Bero officiating. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest North Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Saturday from 10:00 until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to Alternatives of Kalamazoo or Committee on Home Mission of OPC.
