Richland Beloved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Reneldia went home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 10, 2010. She was born January 19, 1929 in Pacific, MO, the daughter of Henry and Rosenia Fredrick Lalk. On November 17, 1955, she married Herbert Vander Horst and moved to Kalamazoo. Reneldia was a lifelong member of the Second Christian Reformed Church and, for many years, was an active and diligent bookkeeper for the family business, Chicken Coop Restaurants. She had kidney failure and received a kidney from her nephew, Randy Lalk. She was known for her great southern hospitality, Thanksgiving dinners and homemade pies. Her true joy, however, was her grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Joseph W. Judy Vander Horst and James A. Tammy Vander Horst both of Kalamazoo; 4 grandchildren, Christina, Jonathan, Daniel and David Vander Horst; a special nephew, Randy Lalk; brother-in-law, James Carol Vander Horst of Portage; sisters-in-law, Anita Paul Ruimveld, of Kalamazoo, Johanna Marvin Niewoonder of Plainwell, and Gertrude Willard Nieboer of Gun Lake; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert, on February 21, 2007; all her siblings, Allie, Ruth, Mary, Arnold, Ervan and Woody Lalk. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., with Rev. Dr. Warren H. Lammers, officiating. Interment at Fort Custer National Cemetery will take place at a later time. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be given to the Kalamazoo Christian School Association or the Kidney Foundation of Michigan-Dialysis Unit, Borgess Hosp. 2-E.
