McCann, Reba Marie York
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Died on March 5, 2013 at the age of 91. Reba was born September 16, 1921, in Litchfield, IL to the late Herbert A. York and Anna O. Shepherd York. She was raised in East St. Louis, IL and graduated from East St. Louis High School in 1939. Prior to and during WWII, she worked for the Diamond Match Company and, later, Edison Bros. Shoes as assistant to the Vice President in St. Louis. She married the late Walter R. Bob McCann in 1947 and they moved first to Chicago and, in 1957, to Kalamazoo. During her 56 years in Kalamazoo, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women - Miriam Circle, a 40-year member and President, Secretary, Education Chair, and Parliamentarian of the Ladies Library Association, Southwest Michigan District President and Financial Chairman of the Endowment Fund of the Michigan Federation of Women's Clubs, and Director and Treasurer of Girlstown. She was also an avid bridge player and played monthly with her bridge club. She loved her family which, in addition to her late husband, include her two children and a daughter-in-law, Robert W. McCann and Mona M. Signer of Potomac, MD, and Elizabeth S. McCann of Kalamazoo, two grandchildren and their spouses, Harrison Scott McCann Kathryn Howell of Ann Arbor and Laura F. McCann Mark Ricche of Gaithersburg, MD. Reba is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dwight York, and sister Doris McBride. Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park St. Rev John Boley and Rev. Dr. Douglas Vernon will officiate with interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center or a charity of choice.
