SMITH, Raymond K.
of Climax, Michigan Died November 12, 2013 at age 94. Ray was born July 20, 1919 in Climax, MI to the late Herbert and Mary Wolcott Smith. He was united in marriage to Suzanne "Kate" Betz on June 3, 1942. Kate preceded him in death on March 7, 2003. Ray served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant, from December of 1942 until honorably discharged in January of 1946. Among his personal awards were, the Purple Heart and WWII Victory medal. After the war, Ray began his duties in the existing family business, the Climax Crescent, from where he retired in 1990. Ray is survived by his sons, John Brenda Smith of Battle Creek and Charles Dawn Smith of Marshall; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Edna Farthing and many nieces and nephews. Also preceding Ray in death was his brother, Edwin Smith. Family will greet friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 East Maple St. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, 11:00 at Climax United Methodist Church, Rev. Glenn Litchfield officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Climax Rotary Club or the Climax United Methodist Church.
