Raymond ''Ray'' C. Pence

PENCE, C. Raymond ?Ray? Hayes, Virginia Formerly of Portage Mr. Pence passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2007 in Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He was born July 16, 1928 in Winona, MI, the son of Lee and Vera Burkett Pence. Ray was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Pence was a member of Portage United Methodist Church, Local #324, and lifetime member of VFW Otsego Post #3030, but often attended Portage Post #5855. Preceding him in death is his first wife, Barbara Pence on September 26, 2001. Surviving are his wife, Caroline Pence; one daughter, Deborah Johnson of Hartfield, Virginia; one son, Richard Raymond Pence of Cheboygan; three step-daughters, Pam Pruka of Portage, Nancy Fischer of Hutchinson, and Fay Kruse of Redwood Falls, MN; one step-son, Jack Colwell of Mitchell, South Dakota; one sister, Elvera Detki; two brothers, Charles and Norman Pence; four grandchildren, Jason Pence of Kalamazoo, Shannon Pence of Kalamazoo, Zachary Johnson of Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, and Victoria Johnson of Hartfield, Virginia; one great-granddaughter, Haley Henshaw; thirteen step-grandchildren; and eighteen step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Pence will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave., with Rev. Greg Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Central Portage Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospitality House.
