MECHALIK, Raymond L.
of Mattawan Ray passed away peacefully with his family and close friends by his side on Wednesday morning, November 2, 2011. He was born August 8, 1944, in Petoskey, MI, the son of Stanley and Sophie Lechowicz Mechalik. Ray taught Biology at Kalamazoo Central High School from 1969 to 2004. He also served as head of the science department several times; was a National Honors Society advisor, and in his first few years there, was an assistant football coach. Ray was an avid hunter and golfer. He was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church, the MEA, the NRA, and Ridgeview Golf Course. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Roger Frank and Gordon Gilbert. On November 18, 1972, Ray was united in marriage with the former Linda Frank, who survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Lindsey Mechalik of Ithaca, NY; Linda's parents, Victor and Norma Frank of N. Ft. Myers, FL; brother-in-law, Art Janet Frank of E. Lansing; sister-in-law, Janet Frank of Ludington; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many dear friends and his Doberman-German Sheppard, "Zephyr". Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 Saturday morning at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 23830 Front Street in Mattawan, with Fr. Mathew Illikattil, Presider. Burial in Maple Grove Cemetery in Mattawan will follow services. Memorials should be directed to the American Cancer Society.
