MALONEY, Raymond P. Of Kalamazoo Passed away Monday afternoon, April 23, 2007. Ray was born September 30, 1911 in Bronson, MI the son of Martin and Julia Baker Maloney. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Ray received a citation from the late Secretary of the Navy, Knots, and was in charge of damage control on the USS Cleveland. Ray was a member of the DAV Buck Crosby Chapter 6, and received the Medal of Honor, 6 Ribbons, 3 Silver Stars, 2 Bronze Stars, a plaque for his leadership while being a Commander for 3 years; and a plaque for his service on the police department and as a crossing guard. He was employed 25 years with James River Paper; was the labor foreman for Miller Davis; and was Chief Inspector for Atlas Press. Ray was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and very involved with any type of politics. On August 2, 1939 he was united in marriage to the former Regina Lynch who preceded him in death in 1995. He was also preceded in death by a step-son, Ralph Herman; son-in-law, Tony Espinoza; 7 brothers, Harold, Leonard, Bernard, Ed, Laddie, Steve, and Albert. Surviving are a daughter, Lynn Espinoza; step-son, Edwin Bonnie Herman; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Floyd Betty Maloney; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Marian Middlebush. Services will be held at 10:30 o?clock Friday at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 E. Centre with Fr. Kevin Covert, Celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Thursday from 11-6pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick. Memorials may be directed to the St. Joseph Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.
