Ray Scott

January 5, 1951 — June 4, 2010

SCOTT, Ray
Of Kalamazoo On Friday, June 4th, 2010, after collapsing on his treadmill, Ray went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ. Walter "Ray" Scott, II was born on January 5th, 1951 to his loving parents Walter and Doris Scott in Highland Park, MI. He served in the United States Navy for 6 years and often spoke fondly of those memories. In 1978, he came to understand his need for a Savior and began his personal walk with the Lord. On June 9th, 1979, he was married to Deborah Lynn Waske. They had an abiding love for 31 years and are blessed with two wonderful sons who have been their absolute pride and joy. After graduating from KVCC's police academy, Ray began his 28 year career with the Portage Police Department, where he always gave his best. In 1997, he started what he viewed to be the highlight of his career, as liaison officer at Portage Central High School. Shortly after completing his last school year, Ray retired from the Portage P.D. and quickly transitioned to a founding position with Kalamazoo Valley Community College's newly formed police force. Ray loved the Red Wings, hunting, spending time outdoors and above all he loved being with his family - including his sweet dog, Lucy. He was known for his good natured and easy going personality. Preceding him in death were his father Walter and his sister Valerie. He is survived and greatly missed by his loving wife Debi; his sons, Courtney April and Christopher; grandson, Owen Scott; his mother, Doris Scott; sisters, Christine Scott and Cathy Jim Sanderson; parents in-law, Al & Betty Waske; ; brother-in-law, Tom Waske; an uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins; dearest friends, Paul & Candace Johnson and their 3 sons. No one will ever fill his place. Funeral services for Ray will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 10, at Calvary Bible Church, 855 S. Drake Road. Friends may visit with the family from 1-3 PM and 5-8 PM on Wednesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Calvary Bible Church, Ray & Debi's church home for the past 29 years for their new sound system.
