Raphael L. Brigance

   Raphael L. Brigance passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born in Braggadocio, Missouri, on April 27, 1937, to the late Charley and Edna (Hale) Brigance. Raphael worked in IT, first for the Upjohn Corporation for 17 years and then starting his own business, RL Brigance Associates. He was a long-time member of the Galesburg United Methodist Church where he helped with the Food Pantry and was involved with the Men’s Group. He was active in his grandchildren’s activities, enjoyed taking care of the numerous pets he has had over the years, and was a helper to all. Raphael was always willing to lend a hand or help wherever he could.
   Surviving is his loving wife of 65 years, Millie; daughter, Michelle (Steve) Jackson; four grandchildren, Sarah (Justin) Steeby, Rachelle (Sam) Preston, Melissa (Chad) Groetesema, and Travis Smith; seven great-grandchildren, Lily and Chloe Czuk, Owen and Ava Steeby, Lucas Groetesema, Carter and Caleb Preston; as well as several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death is his daughter, Sheryl VanBruggen; and three brothers, Charles, Melvin, and Norman Brigance.
   Funeral services will be held Friday, March 15, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Galesburg United Methodist Church in memory of Raphael.
