PATTERSON, Rand "Randy"
Of Portage Rand went to be with his Lord, Wednesday, April 8, 2009. He was born March 31, 1948, in Kalamazoo, the son of Hugh and Gladys Adolf Patterson. A lifelong Portage area resident, he was employed with Upjohn/Pharmacia/Pfizer for 39 years, retiring in 2008. Rand lived his life to the fullest, loving God and being a role model to all who knew him and loved him. He enjoyed helping others at all costs and whenever needed. Rand was a loving husband, devoted father, awesome "Boppa", son, brother and friend to everyone he met. On June 12, 1970, he was united in marriage to the former Joanie Visker. Surviving in addition to his wife Joanie, are two daughters, Heidi Ben Folkers, Tami Kyle Mason; five grandchildren, Jurien and Jackson Folkers, Kobe, Kaeli and Kynzie Mason; his father, Hugh Patterson; his sister, Cindy Bob Murphy; nieces, Anna and Beth and many special lifelong friends. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A service to celebrate Rand's life will be held 1:00pm Tuesday at Valley Family Church 995 Romence Rd. Interment will follow with a motorcycle processional to Portage South Cemetery. Memorials in Rand's memory may be directed to Mott's Children's Hospital Pediatric Research-Leukemia/Lymphoma, or Susan G. Komen For The Cure in honor of Wendy Nakken.
