Smith, Ralph W., 86, of Port Richey, FL, died September 29, 2009 in Florida. Ralph was born July 29, 1923 in Kalamazoo, MI and graduated in 1942 from Kalamazoo Central High School and in 1949 from the University of Michigan with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. In 1981 he retired as Director of Engineering and Maintenance Operations from the Upjohn Company after 37 ½ years. He was a member of Westside Kiwanis and the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo. In 1981 he moved to Port Richey, FL where he was active in his community and church. Survivors include his wife, Janet; son, T. Murray Bonny Smith of Plano, TX; daughter, Barbara Warren Smith-Bacon of Newton, MA; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Bacon and Tucker Bacon of Newton, MA. Ralph is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty and two sisters. Private graveside services will be held followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm on Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. with the Rev.
