Phyllis W. Ossewaarde

OSSEWAARDE, Phyllis W. Kalamazoo Passed away Friday, February 9, 2007. She was born February 22, 1928 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Henry J. and Katherine Van Daff Weenink and had been a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area. Phyllis graduated from the Bronson School of Nursing in 1951 and was employed by Bronson Methodist Hospital for several of her 40 years in the nursing field. She also volunteered at the Food Pantry and the Red Cross, working with their Blood Mobiles. She was a member of the First Reformed Church and then became a member of the Second Reformed Church of Kalamazoo. On March 28, 1952, she married Jacob L. Ossewaarde, and he preceded her in death on January 12, 2005. Phyllis is survived by her children, Patricia L. Drake, Sally B. Ossewaarde, and William J. Ossewaarde; her grandchildren, Abigail K. Drake, Hannah E. Drake and Michael Elliot Drake; two sisters, Miriam Vermeulen of Kalamazoo and Joan Jack Wellnitz of Big Rapids; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street with Rev. Sandra Elfring officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or Loaves and Fishes.
