CHRISTENSEN, Phyllis Elaine Kalamazoo A lovely, sweet lady, Phyllis passed away peacefully Saturday, October 15, 2011. Phyllis was born in Atlas Township, MI in 1927, daughter of Laura and Lyle Ries. She graduated high school as salutatorian of her class in Holly, MI in 1945, and attended secretarial college. In 1952, she married Arthur Christensen, a new teacher in Holly. The couple moved to Art?s hometown, Greenville, MI, where he taught school and they began a family. In 1958, Art?s teaching career brought them to Kalamazoo?s University High and W.M.U. Phyllis was a homemaker, sang in a chorale group, played bridge, and served in the PTA. She volunteered with the March of Dimes and at the Upjohn Nursing Home. She enjoyed playing tennis and organized women?s leagues for the Kalamazoo Racquet Club. Both Art and Phyllis were always ready for a game of golf and sharing good times with their many friends. She loved her family dearly. She will be remembered as a little lady with a big smile and a kind heart. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, and her sister, Betty Craig. She is survived by her son, Kurt Carol Christensen, Lockhart, Texas, and grandsons Mikkel and Darren Becca Christensen; and daughter, Holly Tom Rosenhagen, Mattawan, and grandchildren Nichole, Todd, Jessica and Tate; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the Langeland Family Funeral homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 11:00 AM, followed by visitation until 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the March of Dimes, Michigan Chapter or the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
