Kalamazoo, MI Died Tuesday morning September 7, 2010. Phyllis was born June 12, 1926 in Pontiac, Michigan the daughter of Phillip and Myrtle McCarty Bird. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of her life and was employed with the Kalamazoo Public Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1998. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harrison "Harry" Adkins on August 10, 2001; and 2 brothers, Phillip and Herb Bird. Phyllis is survived by 6 children, Virginia Phillips, Harold Blodgett, and William Alice Adkins all of Kalamazoo, Phillip Tess Adkins of Gobles, Anita Tiffany of Scotts, and Suzanne Foster of Kalamazoo; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Bird of Portage; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 3 o'clock Friday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Private graveside services will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Humane Society. www.langelands.com . 343-1508.
