Phillip Burl Bumpus

Phillip Burl Bumpus, born on January 27, 1943, in Adrian, Michigan, passed away on February 18, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He served his country as an SP5 in the Army during the Vietnam War.

He graduated from Adrian High School and earned an Associates Degree from Stauzenburger Business School. Phillip married Diane Sackett at the First Presbyterian Church in Kalamazoo after just four dates, and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage.

Phil had a long career, working for Humphrey Products as Chief Accountant for 40 years. He was known for his love of woodworking and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. An avid walker, he would walk up to five miles a day in his neighborhood and loved family trips up north, particularly to Mackinaw and Traverse City.

Phil is survived by his two daughters, Adrianne (Craig) Jarrett and Carrie (Lisa) Curtis; his sisters, Constance (Scott) Morris, Veronica (David) McCrumb; and his brother, Gaylord (Marilyn) Hill; and his grandchildren, Lauren (Caleb) MacPherson, Kayden Bumpus, Alec (Maddie) Williams, Cassie Curtis, and Morgan (Jake) Heim, along with four great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his bulldog companion, Miss Ann.

Phillip is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph V. Bumpus and Mary M. (Bohlke) Bumpus, and his beloved wife, Diane Bumpus.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM, located at 411 E Centre Ave, Portage, MI 49002.
