ACKERMAN, Phillip G. Sebring, FL Formerly of Kalamazoo, MI Passed away Monday, April 2, 2007, in Sebring, FL. Phillip was born July 6, 1935, in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of William G. and Faye A. Curtis Ackerman. He graduated from Comstock High School and Western Michigan University. During the Korean War, Phillip served in the US Navy aboard the USS O?Bannon DDE-450 for 4 consecutive years. Later, he became a life member VFW Post # 6252 in Comstock. He retired after 18 years from the American Red Cross where he served as the Disaster Director of Southwest Michigan and Service to Military Families and Veterans. After retiring, Phillip moved to Sebring, Florida. He was a very active member of Kalamazoo Covenant Church in Kalamazoo and the Sebring Christian Church in Florida. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard G. Ackerman and a granddaughter, Wendy Kay Todd. On December 18, 1955, Phillip was united in marriage with the former Sandra Grimm, who survives. Also surviving are: 4 children, Pamela Ackerman of Kalamazoo, Toni Larry Todd of Kalamazoo, Dawn Holly Reyner Ackerman of Lawrence and Phyllis Kevin Brundage of Florida; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and a niece, Regina Kyle Slade of Indianapolis. Services will be held 1:00 Monday afternoon at Kalamazoo Covenant Church, 5708 E. Main, with Pastor Tod Schwingel of Sebring Christian Church and Pastor John Kepler of Kalamazoo Covenant Church, officiating. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery of Comstock will follow services. Family and friends will gather for visitation on Sunday from 6-8 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Phillip?s family requests that memorials be directed to the Sebring Christian Church, Building Fund, 4514 Hammock Rd, Sebring, FL 33870.
