HOEKMAN, Peter J.
Of Kalamazoo Went to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday afternoon, December 9, 2012. Peter was born January 7, 1920 in Harrison, SD the son of John and Dierke Beragakker Hoekman who preceded him in death. He was a decorated combat veteran serving in the Army 41st Division 162 Infantry during the Pacific Campaign Philippines, New Guinea. Prior to his retirement he was employed for many years at Dalieden's Auto Body doing auto repair. He enjoyed working on his lawn and gardens vegetable and flower, and building bird houses. If you needed help he was there repairing cars or as a jack of all trades around the house. Peter served on the North Christian Grade School board; as Elder and Deacon for both Second Christian Reformed Church and Parchment Christian Reformed Church. Peter was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church. On October 4, 1946 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Sue Smit, who preceded him in death on January 11, 1996. He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Richard Cora Hoekman, Freida Peter Meulenberg, Frederick Evelyn Hoekman; and sister-in-law, Jennie Hoekman. Surviving are 3 children, Dennis Joyce Hoekman, Beth Ann Hoekman, Nancy Dennis Althuis; 4 grandchildren, Dawn Troy Mepyans, Jessica Derek Albrecht, Jennifer William Dean, Justin Althuis; 4 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Tiffany, Anna Mepyans, and Jackson Albrecht; sister and brothers, Katherine Hoekman of South Dakota, Steven Jeanne Hoekman of California, Henry Hoekman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at 11:00am Friday at the Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Rd., with Rev. Dr. Warren H. Lammers officiating. Friends may meet the family Thursday evening from 5-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick and one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Private family interment will be in East Cooper Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Second Christian Reformed Church, Kalamazoo Christian Schools Association, or Borgess VNA Hospice.
