FOSTER, Peter Martin, Jr.
Portage Peter passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, January 5, 2012. He was born December 1, 1947, in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Peter M. and Lois J. Fish Foster and had been a lifelong area resident. Above all, the most important thing in his life was his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He was a member of Kalamazoo First Assembly of God where he enjoyed being a part of the Praise Team. Peter had a strong passion for music, wrote many songs and sang with the Berean Quartet for 17 years. He consistently volunteered with Tendercare of Kalamazoo, the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission and the Dream Center. Peter worked for the City of Kalamazoo in the Water Department for 39 1/2 years before retiring. Peter was always a hard worker and a perfectionist who stayed on task until the job was done just right. Peter was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and made sure to let his family know how important they were to him. In his free time he enjoyed playing golf and softball. Peter loved holidays and celebrating with his family. He was also an avid vacationer and loved planning family vacations every year. Peter enjoyed a good conversation and often went out of his way to make sure those he loved were doing well. He will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends. On June 20, 1969, Peter was united in marriage with the love of his life, the former Vickie Kissinger, who survives. Also surviving are his four children whom he loved, Peter Martin Angie Foster, III of Portage, Angela Brent Simcox of Hudsonville, Chuck Stephanie Foster of Kalamazoo and David Lacey Foster of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren whom he adored, Haley, Joshua, Caleb, Mabrae, Mekdez and Isaiah with 2 more grandchildren who are due yet this year; his parents, Peter and Lois; three brothers, Glenn Cherie Foster of Lawton, Dan Sue Foster of New York State, Tom Mary Foster of Paw Paw; a sister Carolyn Paul Phelps of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved greatly. Private graveside services will be held in Mount Ever Rest Memorial Park, South. A service of Celebration will be held at 1:00 Monday afternoon at Kalamazoo First Assembly of God, 5550 Oakland Dr., with his brother-in-law, Rev. David Toppen, officiating. Peter's family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to First Assembly of Gallup, NM, 716 East Hill Ave., Gallup, NM 87301 or to Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, 448 N.
