Went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday morning, February 26, 2024. Paul was born July 22, 1936 in Kalamazoo, MI the son of John and Henrietta (Smit) Medema. Paul grew up in Portage, MI with his 4 brothers and 2 sisters. In 1954, he graduated from Portage Central High School. He was the proud owner of Medema Floor Service and also worked for Seyferts Foods. His love of refurbishing wood floors continued even after his retirement from Seyferts. Paul enjoyed fishing, hunting, Tigers baseball and having coffee with the guys most mornings. Paul and his wife took many different trips to see lighthouses, one of his great passions. He was a member of the Singing Crusaders Christian chorus group and enjoyed the opportunity to perform for churches in the Netherlands. He was very involved in his church. Paul was a very proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He cherished time spent with his family and attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events. Paul was known to always be there with a smile and handshake.
On July 28, 1956 Paul was united in marriage to his loving wife of 67 years, Irene (Thomas), who survives. Also surviving are his children, Lorri Clark, Dan Medema; granddaughters, Amy Winkel and Mary Brown; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Dustin, Keegan, Blake, and Brooklyn; brothers, John Medema, Ken (Karen) Medema; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Paul was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Bern, Herm, Janet, and Marilyn; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Medema and Myra Medema. Friends may meet the family from 10:00-11:00am on Friday, March 1 at the First Reformed Church of Portage, 7905 S. Westnedge, Portage, MI 49002 where funeral services will follow at 11:00am. Private interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the First Reformed Church of Portage.
